PATINA July 14, 2024 Meeting featuring Author Betsy Davidson

The July 2024 in-person CLUB meeting in McLean VA, will be SUNDAY JULY 14.  NEW START TIME–9:00am!!

Our program for July 14 features returning author, Betsy Davison.  At a past meeting, Betsy previously presented her book on The Furniture of John Shearer, 1790-1820.  At the July 14th meeting we get a sneak preview of her current work on furnituremaker John Spitler, entitled “Shenandoah’s Page Valley Style: the Painted Furniture of John Spitler, 1790-1806”.

Betsy will be discussing the culture in which Spitler worked, the construction of chests (briefly), how Spitler applied paint, the origin of some of his most frequently used motifs, and the transition of his style from pre-1800 to post 1800.

Elizabeth A. (Betsy) Davison is an independent decorative arts historian. Before entering this field, she spent 20 years working in high tech as a Customer Support Manager, a Methods Analyst and a Technical Writer for Boston-area start-up companies, Microsoft and AOL. Betsy is a 2004 graduate of the MESDA Summer Institute program and graduated in 2008 from Parsons The New School for Design, New York City and the Smithsonian, Washington, D.C. program with an M.A. in the History of Decorative Arts and Design.

Don’t forget that we are now compressing our meeting schedule. Tailgating will officially begin at 9:00AM. The mini-auction will begin at 11:00. The program will begin at 11:30, or immediately following the auction.

We will use the upper lot only for tailgating. Please park in the lower lot if you are not planning to set up a table. Start time: 9:00am for tailgating.
